The CMA (Certified Management Accountant) Accreditation has been a global benchmark for management accountants and financial professionals for more than 45 years now. The CMA certification shows proof of a candidate’s knowledge and competencies in the Management Accounting field.
Requirements to enroll in the CMA program are:
- Two years of relevant work experience;
- A bachelor’s degree of an accredited college or university. Please check whether your college or university is included in this list. If not, let us know by sending in your application, so we can check with IMA if they accept the degree from that institution.
The English CMA program at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam is specifically focused on non-Dutch speaking, international professionals who work in the Netherlands as a management accountant, financial professional or hold a related function. When in doubt about your qualifications, do not hesitate to contact the programme director for more information.
Candidates are expected to have a thorough knowledge of Financial Accounting, Management Accounting and Financial Management. On average, candidates with an accounting degree or a business administration degree finish their studies within one year. Candidates who do not pass the exams of CMA Part 1 or CMA Part 2 within the planned time frame, can follow the classes again at no cost in the next year.
Candidates must submit the application form for the first semester (CMA Part 2) before September 1, 2019. For the second semester (CMA Part 1), candidates must apply before January 10th, 2020. Candidates can start either in September or in January.

Subscription to the course is only final after the applicant has received a confirmation. The course needs a minimum of 5 candidates to take place. If the candidate decides not to take part in the course after subscribing, this must be communicated in a timely manner through e-mail. In case the candidate did not notify the programme manager before the second lecture date, an administrative fee of €50 will be charged.
Applying for the VU CMA Programme is not the same as subscribing to the CMA exam. The candidate needs to plan his or her own exam date through ICMA. The VU will provide the candidates with information about this subscription process in a timely manner.
